(The Church on the Corner)

Who We Are

Our History

Shire-West Christian Centre started as an outreach of Southside Christian Fellowship in 1992 under the leadership of Pastors Graeme and Cara Peters, formerly Associate Pastors at Southside.  The first meeting was on 2 February 1992 at Menai Scout Hall in Treloar Place, Menai with small team commissioned from Southside, its theme “Building the Kingdom”.

As the church grew, in October 1992, meetings were relocated to the newly opened Lucas Heights Community School where the chairs, PA, etc had to be set up each week in the Performance Space.

In 1997 enquiries were made to lease the empty buildings and grounds of the former site of Menai Primary School on the corner of Old Illawarra and Menai Road.  After carrying out renovations on the buildings, the first service at “Menai Corner”, its current location, was held on 5 July 1998.

After leading the church for over ten years Graeme and Cara handed the leadership to an eldership team.  Over the intervening 30 years, Don Hobbs, Evelyn Denning and Chris Broodryk have served as Pastors / Associate Pastor, and Zoli Jorden appointed to this latter position from January 2019 to October 2019.

The church was renamed Hope Community Church in August 2013.

The Sermons

This is “How to Slay Your Giants.” Many of you are fighting the biggest giant you’ve ever faced. You feel surrounded on all sides by the enemy, and you’re fighting to save your children, save your marriage, save your home, save your business.

This is “Miracles in Your Home.” God is shining a light into our homes during this time. We’re in the midst of a rare opportunity for families to take inventory of their spiritual lives and see where we’ve laid up our riches. Inside a church building cannot be the only place we worship.

This is “Picking Up Dropped Dreams.” God gives His people a dream, a purpose, a mission … a plan for their life. It’s a designated end; it’s a vision of where you will be with God’s hand upon your life. But hell wants to send a nightmare to steal your dream.
